It's pretty crazy how quickly you can adjust to weather. As soon as I got off the airplane I was all like "Boy, it's hot in here." (hehehe)
Went to the beach the other day. When I go someplace hot like this I imagine the water to be rather warm, like Cayman. Turns out, Australia is quite different. Once I got in and was used to it it was really quite warm. Learned how to swim with the waves, and it is so much fun! I will never want to go to a wave pool again. Considering this was the first time back in saltwater in a while I could deal with it quite well and stayed in for some time. Of course, after my eyes were apparently quite red.
Played an awesome version of pictionairy the second night we were here. Corinne, you might want to consider this for a youth event.
Sunday and Monday we basically had a freebee day to get over jet lag. We got to go to the beach and the staff here just really try and keep you up until at least 8:30.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday we went over more of what the school does and have little activities to learn and remember more. Everyone shared their stories. That's probably my favourite part about meeting people like this. We also went over the policies of the place, fairly straightforward and mostly common sense. One that surprised me a bit was the swimsuit rule. Here they say that it's hot, there's a beach close by and if you're going to the beach you should enjoy the beach. Apparently they were at one point afraid of not being modest enough and just ended up looking like a cult when they went down there. Now they allow pretty much all swimwear. Except for speedos. HALLELUJAH!
Friday we started to get into routine. That includes chores, and lectures. Saturday we had an amazing race to get to know the area a bit better. That was really cool and fun. My team pretty much decided from the start it was for fun...we ended up in last place.
They also have this awesome thing called cuppa! It's tea time. We just get a mini snack and get to chill with people. It's part of my favourite time here :) They are so passionate about it that they even have cuppa after church. Awesome! I think Canadians should have this. Imagine: "Okay class, put down your books, it's cuppa time!"
For those of you on Facebook there's a page you can like YWAM Wollongong
It will have a weekly video of a student and leader just explaining what we're learning. It also has other updates and pictures loaded onto there.
Anyone else reading this that has Facebook and isn't friends with me, my name is Rachel Stumpynadinegoldfishbasil Wegner. I'm the only one of those so you can definitely find me there. Like my status this time if you want me to upload pictures that I've taken so far of the trip (there aren't too many)
Also if you have any questions, feel free to comment or message me. I'll answer questions on future posts as well.
Hopefully our speaker/preacher next week will be awesome and super in depth and I'll be able to share more of what I'm learning and how I'm it's pushing me.
Until next time, hasta la vista. I've got my eye on yah.
It's so good to hear from you, Rachel! I would love to hear about Pictionary, and I would also love to see some pictures. I think about you and pray for you everyday! I can't wait to hear more about your time in Australia.
